I know a lot of people simply hate making lists in general but I JUST LOVE IT! There is something motivating about setting goals and planning for new projects. I tend to start with an overall yearly picture and then break it down to a 90 day planners. This morning, I sat down with a cup of tea, started dreaming, and making my list.

There are suddenly all this possibilities and a NEW BEGINNING! But as they say…

A goal without a plan is just a wish!

Set your goals

It doesn’t really matter if is the first of January or in the middle of the year, it is important to take a break and actually think about, where you want to go, creatively or for anything else. And breaking it down into 90 days makes it so more manageable.
Let go of all the guilty feelings about what you have NOT done so far… today is a new BEGINNING!

What skill would you like to learn or improve?
What projects and ideas would you like to persue?
With what creative friends would you like to connect?

Set your goals high enough to inspire you and low enough to motivate you.

From the main goal to the 90 day planner

Break down your goals into reachable wins

Imagine if you would train for a marathon, you wouldn’t go from nothing to directly running 42km. You would start with small goals and then building up. But somehow with art, we are less patience and want results immediately. So, take it easy and break down your goal into many small milestones!

FINDING or MAKING time to create?

You will never FIND time, you have to MAKE time. In the end, it is all a question of priorities. You will always make time to take a shower for example, and not say, I am sorry I haven’t showered in 3 months, I just didn’t have time!

Take a moment to think where you could fit in the time to create! And remember this special time has such an incredible effect on your overall well-being. It is worth finding a solution and make it a priority!

  • Painting can be so more rewarding than watching TV
  • Or maybe you are like me, I love to draw and fiddle with colors while watching a movie.
  • Reserve some time on the weekend
  • Sketching is a lot of fun also away from home or your studio. During commuting, in a cafe shop, or during your vacation
  • Enroll in a class, that way you creat at least once a week
  • If you have an art business reserve block of times to create. A whole week every month, 2 days a week or whatever suits you.

Set realistic goals even if it is only creating once a week.

Set your surrounding according to your goal

You want to get your surroundings ready for your goals. For example, if you would like to paint regularly into a journal. Have a table ready with inspirational images, your journal, and all the paints out. READY TO GO, ANYTIME.
You might say, but I do not have a table available just for myself. A basket with all the material you need can look very lovely in the living room, and painting and drawing on the kitchen table works perfectly!
